Southlake, Texas - State Representative Vicki Truitt was appointed today to serve on the State Sunset Advisory Commission. The Commission reviews the operations of state agencies and adopts recommendations to make state government more efficient. As a legislative member of the Commission, Representative Truitt will be responsible for carrying legislation in 2005 that will implement Sunset Commission efficiency recommendations.

Upon his appointment of Truitt to the Sunset Commission, Texas House Speaker Tom Craddick commented, "Representative Truitt is an ideal person to help make our state government more efficient and accountable. Since only five members of the 150 member House of Representatives serve on the Sunset Commission, this is a prestigious and well-earned appointment." Speaker Craddick told Truitt that approximately 40 members of the House had requested an appointment to serve on the Sunset Commission.

In accepting the appointment, Representative Truitt said, "I work very hard serving my constituents, and I will work equally hard as a member of the Sunset Commission. I feel fortunate to have been chosen, and I am determined to see Texas have the most cost-effective state government in the country."

Representative Truitt's four-year term on the Sunset Commission begins immediately. During the 2004-2005 review period, 30 agencies will be under review including the Texas Education Agency, Worker's Compensation Commission, The Lottery Commission, Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, and Public Utility Commission of Texas.

Earlier this year, Speaker Craddick appointed Rep. Truitt to the powerful House Appropriations and Calendars Committees, as well as the House Select Committee on State Health Expenditures, and appointed her Chairman of Budget and Oversight for the House Committee on Public Health. These committee assignments are effective through the full, two-year period of current legislative cycle.

State Representative Vicki Truitt has served in the Texas House of Representatives since 1999. She represents District 98, which includes the cities of Grapevine, Colleyville, Southlake, Keller, Westlake and far north Fort Worth.
